While I disagree with some of the policies proposed by Arizona’s new governor, I have to commend the policies she mentioned at last week’s press conference.
Katie Hobbs continues Gov. Doug Ducey’s policy of moving immigrants from our distressed border areas to other parts of the country. The only change Hobbs has made is the addition of air travel options to its previously bus-only program.
“It’s about helping these communities,” says Hobbs. “If you’re spending money on bus riders, why not take them to their final destination?”
As with the previous governor, only volunteer immigrants are sent out of state.
Ducey is ‘mean’ for putting immigrants on buses
When Ducey or Texas Governor Greg Abbott deported people from Tucson or El Paso, it was considered cruel. Governor Ron DeSantis chartered a plane from Florida, which was thought to be worse.
Of course, it’s “controversial” and “mean” when Republicans do it. Hobbes’ wise decision has received less criticism due to the ‘D’ after his name. She copied DeSantis on the plane thing.
Arizona’s new governor has vaguely promised to “overhaul” the program, but frequent flyer miles are already piling up.
“We’re sending immigrants to cities where they really need to go and where they need to connect with sponsors,” spokeswoman Josselyn Berry said.
Hobbes:Plan to pay migrants’ travel expenses ‘efficient and humane’
Berry also promised that adding an air trip to a bus trip would be more cost-effective. No details were provided about this last claim.
Nonetheless, Governor Hobbs made the right move. Immigration is a national issue, not a national issue. If Biden wants to overlook a massive increase in illegal border crossings, all 50 states should share the burden. The status quo cannot be maintained.
Border Communities at Breaking Point
From 2021 to 2022, the Yuma County Border Patrol will: 171% increase in migrant travelMore than 500,000 people have entered the region illegally, with an average of 6,000 migrants arriving each week. The government cannot count the estimated 2,000 migrants each week who escape patrols.
Good thing those shipping containers have been removed from the border gap.
Yuma has 100,000 residents, so this fraudulent traffic represents 6% to 8% of the population. every week. Cities from Seattle to Boston must do their part.
Yuma County Superintendent Jonathan Lines said: blame the federal government Especially President Biden.
“When we see unprecedented amounts of people coming across the border to replace what has been seen under other presidents in the last 30 years, we need to change policy,” Lines said. .
Yuma’s social services, especially the single hospital that serves the city, are at breaking point.
“‘I had to take my wife to San Diego. There were no more beds in this hospital, so I had to take my wife to Phoenix to have the baby.'” row description.
Criticized or not, Hobbes is right about this
Sending immigrants to their desired destination for free is not cruel. The cruel thing is to leave the border town and fend for yourself.
Democratic Governor Jared Polis of Colorado also agrees with Hobbs.
“The lives of immigrants who came here to escape oppression should not be used for politics.” polis he said“And in Colorado, we honor our values of treating people with dignity and respect.”
He simply promised to “help these people finish their long and difficult journey” and that “states and cities cannot continue to carry this burden alone.”
I’m happy for Gobs. Polis and Hobbs have not received criticism directed at Govs. Abbott and Ducey. Moving immigrants out of state is a smart policy for Republicans and Democrats alike.
