Governor Ivey and Mayor Woodfin make appointments to complete the regional water works board

Appointments to Reformed Regional Water Committee

Governor Kay Ivey and Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin have named new members to the revamped regional water committee, which has replaced the Birmingham Water Works following changes made by state legislators during the 2025 legislative session.

Earlier this week, the Blount County Commission and the Birmingham City Council finalized the appointments required by SB330. This came after last week’s selections from Lt. Col. Ainsworth and Jefferson County Commission Chairman Jimmy Stevens.

Governor Ivey appointed Thomas “Tommy” C. Hudson Jr., while Mayor Woodfin appointed Jarvis Patton Sr. Additionally, the Birmingham City Council selected Commissioner Sheila Tyson.

According to information from Woodfin’s office, Patton has significant experience, particularly in developing systems during his time in the Birmingham Mayor’s Office from 2010 to 2017, and as a city council manager from 1987 to 2002.

Ivey designated Hudson as a representative from Jefferson County. Residents there have noted his extensive background in business matters, which spans private, public, and nonprofit sectors.

Blount County Commission appointed David Standridge (R-Hayden), who has been in Alabama politics since 2012. The former law enforcement officer and owner of Standridge Farms expressed that he’s honored to represent the interests of Blount County in ensuring quality water services for five counties.

“My main goal is to rebuild public trust in the management of our water resources and promote transparent leadership,” Standridge remarked. “Together, we will strive to deliver top-notch services that cater to our community’s needs now and in the future. I am eager to make a meaningful, lasting impact for all payers.”
