Gov. Kay Ivey announced Wednesday that more than $40 million in state transportation funding will be given to cities and counties for various road and bridge projects.
This funding is available through the Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation Improvement Program II (ATRIP-II), a program created by the Rebuilding Alabama Act. The Rebuilding Alabama Act calls for ATRIP-II to be an annual program that sets aside at least $30 million from ALDOT's new gasoline tax revenue cap for projects of local interest on the state highway system. Masu.
“Through continued and robust implementation of the Rebuilding Alabama Act, we are proud to announce the allocation of over $40 million in state transportation funds. This is a testament to our dedication to strengthening roads and bridges across the state. This is a significant investment that supports our efforts,” Governor Ivey said. “The people of Alabama deserve nothing less than excellence in their infrastructure, and Rebuild Alabama continues to deliver long-term results that are felt in every region of our state. Masu.”
Twenty-six projects were selected for funding totaling just over $40 million in state transportation funds. Eighteen of the awarded projects were from cities and counties, providing more than $18 million in local funding. The ATRIP-II program does not require local governments to establish matching funds to qualify.
Since the program's creation in 2019, the state has awarded more than $180 million in state transportation funds under ATRIP-II.
These projects were selected by the ATRIP-II committee established by the Alabama Reconstruction Act. It is expected that many projects will be contracted during fiscal year 2024, but all projects must move forward within two years of funding award.
