Governor Kay Ivey is urging the Trump administration to officially announce that the new Space Command Headquarters will be relocated to Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville.
“Alabama is the rightful home of Space Command’s headquarters,” Ivy stated on X. “We’re ready to make this official.”
Ivey’s remarks align with the sentiments of other Alabama political figures regarding potential developments. Following a meeting with Defense Secretary Pete Hegses, US Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) expressed optimism that an announcement would be forthcoming.
“This week, I’ve spent a few hours on the phone in my office, discussing the future of Space Command with President Trump and Secretary Hegses. I’m confident we’ll finalize this soon. Alabama, particularly Huntsville and Madison counties, have already made necessary preparations,” Tuberville said.
In 2023, President Joe Biden declared that the Space Command headquarters would stay in Colorado, even though the Air Force Secretary had previously noted Redstone Arsenal as a contender just two years earlier.
Senator Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) also conveyed her belief that the announcement is imminent, saying, “I truly believe it’s coming back to Alabama. Honestly, I think we’re just a few weeks away from beginning that transition and move.”
It’s generally anticipated that newly confirmed Air Force Secretary Troy Mike will officially reinstate the Space Command Headquarters in Huntsville.
