Governor Ivey reveals $25.9 million for Growing Alabama initiatives

Alabama Governor Announces Funding for Economic Development

Governor Kay Ivey shared on Monday, during her address to the Alabama Economic Development Association, that over $25.9 million has been allocated to bolster economic initiatives across 15 communities in Alabama. This move is part of the state’s ongoing commitment to long-term job creation and site preparation.

The funding allocation, managed by the Alabama Commission, is part of a wider plan set for 2025, which aims to offer up to $26 million this year. Notably, more than 27% of the funds this year are earmarked for Target County, highlighting its importance in the state’s strategy for enhancing rural development.

Ivy remarked, “Alabama’s growth is one of the most effective tools needed to strengthen our economic foundation and prepare our community—both large and small—for future growth. These investments will foster high-quality jobs, help businesses expand, and ensure prosperity across every corner of our state.”

This year’s funding will support various crucial projects, such as site development and enhancements to public infrastructure. These improvements are aimed at increasing the competitiveness of industrial parks and other strategic assets throughout Alabama.

Ellen McNair from the Alabama Department of Commerce commented, “The Alabama growth program continues to yield tangible results for our communities. The funding enables local leaders to expedite site preparations and compete for critical economic development opportunities. It’s a thoughtful investment in Alabama’s future.”

The Growing Alabama program plays a vital role in preparing sites statewide for future development—an important factor for businesses considering new facilities or expansions.

The initiative also offers tax credits to eligible taxpayers who contribute to recognized economic development organizations, allowing contributors to receive tax credits matching their donations. This creates a win-win situation for industrial growth across Alabama.

Among the projects included under the Growing Alabama program are enhancements to industrial public land sites, improved financing for inland ports and intermodal facilities, and the establishment and maintenance of agricultural centers.

The program is administered by the Alabama Department of Commerce, and every application has received approval under the Alabama Committee, which is chaired by McNair.
