Governor Ivey reveals $45 million for GOMESA initiatives in Coastal Alabama

Funding Announcement for Alabama Coast Projects

On Tuesday, Governor Kay Ivey revealed over $45 million allocated for 23 projects along the Alabama coast, made possible through the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act of 2006 (Gomesa).

This funding aims to support various initiatives, including environmental education, outreach, improvements in water quality, and enhanced recreational access. Ivey shared these details during a meeting of the Southern State Energy Committee at the Grand Hotel.

“We’re excited to announce the 2025 Gomesa project,” Gov. Ivey stated.

“With the help of Commissioner Blankenship from the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and his team, I’m proud to distribute more than $45 million to municipalities, counties, and the University of Southern Alabama, all for these important projects funded during my administration.”

The Gomesa initiative allows four Gulf producers to share 37.5% of eligible revenues from oil and gas leases on the outer continental shelf issued since December 20, 2006, with the approval of the ADCNR.

“Today’s announcement regarding the Gomesa project is a significant step toward improving both the environment and quality of life along the Alabama coast,” remarked Chris Blankenship, Commissioner of ADCNR. “We appreciate the efforts of our Department of Conservation and Natural Resources staff and all project partners as we work to maximize the benefits of Gomesa-funded endeavors, which complement ongoing Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Projects and additional funding sources.”

The Alabama Gomesa funding for 2025 totals over $45 million, encompassing a variety of environmental, recreational, and infrastructure projects throughout Mobile and Baldwin counties.
