The measures announced today establish an Independent Prison Oversight Board created to improve transparency and accountability in Arizona’s corrections system, and will issue a preliminary report by November 15, 2023, It is intended to outline initial findings and recommendations.

The Commission is tasked with inspecting prison facilities and records and speaking with officials and inmates for the purpose of monitoring and reporting information on topics such as: Nutrition, medicines, hygiene products and adequate numbers of qualified staff.

“There is no denying that there is an urgent need to provide transparency and accountability to Arizona’s correctional system,” said Gov.
