PHOENIX — Today, Governor Katie Hobbs announced additional presidential decree As part of her first 100 days initiative, she outlines the first 100 actions she will take as governor to help build Arizona for all. The measures announced today establish an Independent Prison Oversight Board created to improve transparency and accountability in Arizona’s corrections system, and will issue a preliminary report by November 15, 2023, It is intended to outline initial findings and recommendations.
The Commission is tasked with inspecting prison facilities and records and speaking with officials and inmates for the purpose of monitoring and reporting information on topics such as: Nutrition, medicines, hygiene products and adequate numbers of qualified staff.
“There is no denying that there is an urgent need to provide transparency and accountability to Arizona’s correctional system,” said Gov. Katie Hobbs. “Incarcerated Arizonans should be treated humanely and appropriately, and corrections administrators and officers should feel safe in their workplaces. It’s one of many reasons he’s the right person to tackle tough problems, but he also needs community support, and this executive order gives him the tools he needs to succeed. .”
