Governor Kay Ivey shares message of ‘faith, resilience, and compassion’ for National Day of Prayer

Throughout her political career, Gov. Kay Ivey has always led by her faith.

On Tuesday, during the 73rd National Day of Prayer, Rev. Ivey released a message urging Alabamians to persevere in their faith in the face of adversity.

“Although our state, our country and our world have faced recent challenges, our faith remains steadfast,” Ivey said.

She said this year's theme is 2 Samuel 22:29-31, “Lift up the word, enlighten the world.”

“This is truly the perfect time for us to hear such a powerful message that reminds us of God's ever-present omnipotence.”

“It says, 'You, O Lord, are my lamp; my God illuminates my darkness. By you I run to the army; by my God I leap over walls. For the way of his God is perfect; the word of the Lord is truth; he is a shield to all who take refuge in him.'”

Ivey believes the selected scriptures “speak to the unwavering support and guidance found in faith, even in times of great trial.”

“This story teaches us that with God's help, we can overcome any obstacle and find light in the darkest times. Let's take a moment to encourage Alabama families, our nation's leaders and all those facing adversity around the world.”

“As Alabamians, we remain united in our faith, our perseverance and our compassion.”
