SAFORD — The Graham County Oversight Board was asked Monday to approve 19 different agreements, contracts and memorandums of understanding, ranging from health department services to contracts with public defenders.

I know they didn’t come to hear all of this, but I’m very impressed with how much the county offers to everyone.” It’s amazing,” said superintendent John Howard. “I am glad that you understand what we have to do with regards to the budget and what services we have to offer. I hope you will understand.”
For the Sheriff’s Office, the Board approved an agreement with the DPS for the Sheriff’s Department to enforce immigration, human and drug smuggling, gang and employer sanctions laws. The deal includes $100,000 in funding for the Sheriff’s Office.
The board also approved an agreement with the Arizona State Department of Administration for a $192,000 grant to the county’s 9-1-1 system.
As for the courts, the Board has appointed five lawyers, Rebecca Johnson, Josi Lopez, Dennis McCarthy, Daisy Flores and Barry Standifard, to provide counsel to adults who cannot afford one in criminal cases. Approved a contract with an attorney. And he has two attorneys, Johnson and Lopez, under contract for poor juvenile services.
The contract will handle 140 adult felony cases per attorney per year, and Johnson and Lopez will also service up to 130 juvenile cases per year.
Fees per attorney are as follows:
● Johnson — $121,760 per year for adults and $834 per additional case over 140 cases.$21,500 for juvenile cases plus $165 for each additional case over 130
● Lopez — $116,760 per year for adults and $834 for each additional over 140.$26,500 for juvenile cases plus $165 for each additional case over 130
● McCarthy — $121,760 per year for adults and $834 per additional case over 140
● Flores — $116,760 per year for adults and $834 for each additional over 140
● Standard — $58,300 per year for adults, $834 per additional over 140
The Department of Health has obtained approval for an agreement with the Mount Graham Regional Medical Center to provide outpatient, inpatient and emergency room services to inmates. Along with Dr. Susan Jones, she serves as the prison’s medical director. Together with Dr. Catherine Romero, she serves as the Ministry’s health supervisor. Provides tuberculosis control services with Dr. Matthew Sampson. Provides mental health consultation with Emily Riddle. It also partners with the Gila Valley Clinic to provide family planning services to Health Department customers.
The Commission also authorized the exchange of road accident data with the Arizona Department of Transportation.
