SAFFORD — In two weeks, the Graham County Historical Society will host its first fundraiser for the new museum, and the society is looking for barbecue lovers.
The first Graham Rib Throwdown will be held March 10-11 at the Graham County Fairgrounds.
“This event is sanctioned by the BBQ Championship Series,” said Harvey John, President of the Historical Society. “So people will come to our town from all over the world to do this.”
With a prize pool of $5,000, entrants will officially judge the ribs in a double-blind tasting and compete for the People’s Choice Award.
To enter the Ribs Contest, please contact Michael Reimann at AZ Barbecue at 602-363-5196.
The Estrella Jalisco Beer Garden opens at 4pm on Fridays and the appetizer and dessert contest begins at 6pm.
On Saturdays, ribs are on sale at noon at the People’s Choice Awards. 1 rib is $2.50 and 10 ribs is $20.
Also Saturday is a cornhole tournament inside the Ag building. The cost is $40 per team. To register, please contact Pete Gauna at 602-316-0953.
