Since 1983, the organization of 250 active volunteers has raised over $30 million for 129 local children’s projects.
“We are all excited to support a new event to raise funds for our local children. Country music as a whole has taken a new twist in the 2020s. Collaboration is the foundation of Angel Charity’s reputation for large-scale, high-impact giving, from funding non-profit programs and scientific research, to building new facilities, renovating facilities, and repaying mortgages. More than one million children have benefited from services that Angel Charity and its donors have funded over the years.
This year is no exception. The beneficiaries of the 2023 Impact Grant are: Steele Children’s Research Center, University of ArizonaIt will receive $800,000 to fund the renovation of five laboratories and one research office at Angel Charity for Children for Genetic Research. In addition, seven Opportunity Grant beneficiaries — Amphi Foundation, Arizona Barn Foundation, Assistance League of Tucson, courtney courage, lead guitar, Treasures 4 Teachers of Tucson and the Tucson Department of Refugees — receive a total of $284,900.
According to Jeannie Nguyen, general chair of Angel Charity, the grant to Steele will support physicians, scientists, medical students, pediatric residents and researchers using cutting-edge technology.
“The lab renovation will support the NovaSeq 6000 System, a state-of-the-art whole-genome sequencing machine, a life-saving technology that uses genetics to rapidly detect a range of diseases. Early on, it will have a meaningful impact on children’s lives,” Nguyen said.
This machine is capable of sequencing 48 complete human genomes in 40 hours. According to Lori Stratton, director of development at Steele Children’s Research Center, it is the only device in southern Arizona with such a feature and the first of its kind at any university in the state.
She said the generous support from Angel Charity, other community partners and individual donors is essential to the Steel Center’s continued growth.
“The lab space we have today was built in 1992 and built for scientific needs 30 years ago. It means different.We have different equipment and more technology and we need different spaces.With this donation and investment from Angel Charity, we are moving forward and this new It allows us to take full advantage of the capabilities of our equipment,” says Stratton.
Nguyen, a 10-year veteran of Angel Charity and senior vice president of the National Bank of Arizona, said Angel Charity is proud to invest in the community and reach out to children in need in Pima County. said there is.
