Grand Canyon Lodge on North Rim to fully open on July 23 after water pipeline fix

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The Grand Canyon’s North Rim has reopened for business after a critical water pipe was repaired, according to an announcement Tuesday on the National Park Service’s (NPS) website.

“Grand Canyon Lodge officially opens for 2023 seasonal operations on Sunday, July 23.” website report.

The pipeline modification comes just as summer temperatures rise in the southwestern desert. The North Rim is known for slightly cooler temperatures than the South Rim. But Wednesday’s forecast said the difference was only about 3 degrees, with 94 degrees on the South Rim and 91 degrees on the North Rim.

Pipeline interruptions are a normal occurrence. A page on the website offers places for hikers to gather. You can check the status of the water source. But National Park Service officials stress that hikers should always carry their own water and that backup measures to properly filter the water should be part of the hiker’s gear. .

Visitor services at the lodge have been limited since June 2, when water-saving measures were put in place due to a pipeline disruption on the North Rim. According to the NPS, these measures are no longer in force.

Grand Canyon Lodge North Rim offers accommodation, food and beverage, shower and laundry services. These services will begin on July 23rd. The lodge’s dining room is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Reservations are required for dinner service.

The last day of the 2023 season for most commercial services will be October 15, 2023.

NPS will continue operations, including the Backcountry Intelligence Agency, through October 31.

Park entrance gates on State Route 67, which provides vehicle access to the North Rim, will close at 5:00 PM on November 30, 2023, or otherwise after the first heavy snowfall.
