Nearly two months after its partial opening for the 2023 season, travelers will once again be able to fully experience the Grand Canyon’s North Rim.
The season on the North Rim usually begins in mid-May, but record snow from a winter storm delayed water pipes and forced the remote side of the Grand Canyon to partially reopen on June 2.
Beginning July 23, the North Rim will be fully open for the remainder of the 2023 season.
This means guests can stay overnight at the Grand Canyon Lodge and full food and beverage service will resume. Laundry and showers at the campground will reopen and the North Kaibab Trail will be fully accessible.

What’s currently open at the Grand Canyon North Rim?
The North Rim Campground opened on June 9th. Drinking water and toilets are available, but there were no laundry and shower facilities.
The North Kaibab Trail, from the trailhead to the Manzanita Rest Area, reopened on June 16. The trail was closed due to falling rocks and landslides from winter storms.
Hikers should be aware that the section of trail between Spy Tunnel and Redwall Bridge may be subject to intermittent closures for up to 30 minutes, according to the National Park Service. Closure is required to remove remaining rockfall.
When does Grand Canyon Lodge at the North Rim open?
Accommodations at the Grand Canyon Lodge will resume on July 23rd. The lodge is closed due to a broken water pipe.
Grand Canyon Lodge, operated by concessionaire Aramark, offered a limited food and beverage menu during the partial reopening. In the future, the lodge will fully resume food and beverage services.
Laundry and shower facilities at the North Rim Campground will also reopen on July 23rd.
When does the Grand Canyon North Rim close?
The North Rim’s 2023 season started late, but there is no change to the end of the season this year. Most of North Rim’s facilities will close for the winter on October 15th.
The park entrance gates will remain open until 5 p.m. Nov. 30, but may open earlier if a severe snowstorm hits by then, park officials said. Those visiting the North Rim after October 16th are advised to be self-sufficient and bring enough food and water for the day.
