Mayor Phil Segraves has declared his intention to run for the Republican nomination in the Alabama House district that encompasses Marion and Lamar counties, as well as Haleyville in Winston County.
“We’re eager to keep pushing forward with our efforts to boost the economy in Northwest Alabama,” Segraves remarked. “Throughout my career, I’ve dedicated myself to attracting investment in our community. I intend to keep advocating for Marion, Lamar, and Haleyville in Winston County to ensure we develop jobs and economic opportunities.”
Having served five terms as mayor of Ginn, Segraves began his political journey on the Ginn City Council. He is actively involved in several local and regional committees, such as the Gin Park and Recreation Committee, the Northwest Alabama Regional Government Council (NACOLG), and the Northwest Alabama Gas Committee. He also previously held the presidency of the Alabama Municipal Federation.
“As a part of the Alabama Legislature, my goal will be to focus on rural economic growth, while also ensuring our educational institutions—ranging from kindergarten through high school and vocational training—receive adequate funding,” Segraves stated. “I commit to upholding conservative values for my constituents and aim to lead in ways that keep taxes manageable.”
During his tenure as mayor, Segraves spearheaded the initiative to extend Ginn’s city limits to include Interstate 22. Through collaborative efforts with public and private partners, he secured funding for essential services like water, sewer, natural gas, electricity, and broadband along those corridors. This work led to the establishment of a 101-room Holiday Inn at Exit 26, which created 54 new jobs. He also collaborated with local officials to install the first electric vehicle charging station on I-22, situated at the hotel.
“Now, thousands of travelers are stopping in Ginn, Alabama, to dine, stay at award-winning hotels, and charge their electric vehicles while on their journeys,” Segraves noted. “We take immense pride in the teamwork between the government, developers, and our utility partners.”
The Republican primary election is slated for May 19, 2026.
