FORT WORTH, Texas — Haley Van Lith scored 24 points and Sedona Prince added 23 points as 10th-ranked TCU defeated 23rd-ranked Utah 81-73 on Friday night, giving the Horned Frogs their 10th straight win.
Madison Conner had 13 points and six assists as TCU (19-1, 7-0 Big 12) held a 21-point lead at halftime and held on in the second half to win its 17th straight home game. .
Gianna Neepkens had 26 points and seven rebounds for the Utes (13-5, 4-3), who lost twice this week at Texas. Mattison Wilke scored 14 points and Reece Ross added 11 points.
A tough trip to Texas ends Utah’s two-week streak in the top 25. Utah lost 71-60 at Baylor on Tuesday, dropping three of four games since a seven-game winning streak that began with a win over No. 3. Notre Dame Cathedral.
TCU held a 23-point lead, but struggled in the second half for the second straight home game. In TCU’s 90-81 win on Tuesday, UCF got within six points in the final minute. Utah got within that lead with nearly six minutes left.
With the lead down to six points, TCU had two solid defensive possessions, followed by two free throws by Conner. Prince scored after the first stop and Van Lith scored after the second, increasing the Frogs’ lead to 12 points with 3:33 left.
TCU made 18 of 20 free throws, all of which were missed in the final moments trying to decide the game. After Prince missed a shot with a six-point lead, Kniepkens missed a 3-point shot with 19 seconds left.
Utah State returns home to play Kansas State on Wednesday. TCU visits No. 24 Oklahoma State on Wednesday.
