Halloween is approaching and Apache Junction Parks and Recreation wants to make your night spooky.
The annual Halloween Festival will be held on Saturday, October 29 from 4-8pm at Superstition Shadows Park at 1091 Southwest Avenue. Participation in the event is free for the community.
“We’re bringing back the popular trunk-or-treat, sponsored by Lost Dutchman Realty. Local businesses will line up cars and hand out handfuls of candy to every dressed-up ghoul and goblin,” the release said. .
Candy donations will be accepted at several locations around the city beginning October 1st. Candy can be dropped at Apache Junction Multi-generational Center, Lost Dutchman Realty, Apache Junction Public Library, Elk’s Lodge No. 2349, Little Prospector Preschool, and VFW No. 9399, Academy Mortgage and VFW Post No. 7968. All candy must be sealed at drop off.
The annual costume contest begins at 6pm and is divided by age. Anyone can enter regardless of age. Use your imagination and don’t forget to get creative, says the release.
“Do you or your family like carving pumpkins for Halloween? If so, bring a pre-carved pumpkin to the park and enter the pumpkin carving contest. Judged by children and adults, all pumpkins must be submitted to the judging table by 6 p.m. to be eligible to win.The winners will be announced after the costume contest concludes, according to the release. Submit your dog to the Halloween Dog Costume Contest All dogs must be on a leash and have a completed entry form This contest will be held in the afternoon after the Human Costume Contest. It will start at 7:00.”
Local non-profits, businesses and food vendors will sell food on site and provide games for children. Tickets sell for his 50 cents per game, and all proceeds from ticket sales go back to the community and non-profits that host booths at the event.
