Harris abandons her own watch party as path to victory fades into night

Vice President Kamala Harris will not speak at her watch party tonight as her path to victory continues to narrow.

Harris’ office closed the door near 1 a.m. Wednesday, indicating there would be no further news or activity that day. Harris never stopped by Howard University, where the watch party is being held, while most election prognosticators predict former President Donald Trump to be the frontrunner for the White House. Just before 1 a.m., Cedric Richmond, co-chairman of the Harris campaign, told a dwindling crowd at the Howard venue: “You won’t hear from the vice president tonight, but you will hear from him tomorrow.” He added that the vote counting process was still underway.

The campaign sent an internal email to staff just before midnight instructing them to go home and get some sleep, which was widely shared on Twitter. Around midnight, news outlets began reporting that the crowd at the Harris Watch Party was starting to thin.

“Those of you who were in 2020 know this all too well. It takes time for every vote to be counted. And every vote will be counted.” That’s how our system works. What we do know is that this race doesn’t come into focus until early in the morning,” said campaign manager Jen O’Malley Dillon. I wrote. “This is what we’re here for. So tonight let’s finish what’s in front of us, get some sleep, and get ready to finish strong tomorrow.”

The email outlined a potential path to victory for the vice president, citing the “blue wall” states of Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. Trump currently leads all three.

President Trump is scheduled to stop by a watch party at the Palm Beach Conference Center. According to to the report.

The New York Times currently predicts that Trump has a more than 95% chance of winning the election.
