‘Hasn’t Been A Long Time’: Dem Rep Says Media Over-Exaggerates ‘Importance’ Of Harris Doing An In-Depth Interview

Democratic Rep. Debbie Dingell of Michigan said on CNN on Monday that the media tends to “over-exaggerate” the “importance” of Vice President Kamala Harris giving interviews, and defended the vice president by pointing out that she hasn't been campaigning for a long time.

Despite being named the Democratic presidential nominee in late July, Harris has yet to announce an official campaign platform. Website Or she could hold a detailed press conference. Dingell acknowledged that Harris “has to spell out her vision and talk about policy,” on “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer,” adding that the campaign process “can't be crammed into one day.” (RELATED: 'I don't want her to talk to me': Democratic pollster wants Harris to continue avoiding the press)

“Well, I think sometimes people overstate the importance of it. She knows what she has to do. She has to spell out her vision, she has to talk more about policy, and I think you can all understand that. We forget that we've seen a year's, two years', three years' worth of events in the last three, four weeks,” Dingell said.

“It's only been two weeks since Harris named her running mate. She had to go to the convention. They had to juggle that. She handed the whole campaign over from one person to another. Labor Day is coming up, fall is here. I think there are 72 or 71 days left in this election,” Dingell continued. “There are going to be some things that you would like to see happen. You can't cram everything into one day. We have to remember that this was not a very long time for candidate Harris.”

Republican lawmakers have criticized Harris for reversing policies she supported during the 2020 presidential election. Harris released parts of her economic plan on July 19, but Republican Sen. Tom Cotton of Arkansas said in an interview with ABC on Sunday that Harris has not personally distanced herself from her past far-left views and that any backlash against policies she previously supported has only come from her aides.

Harris accepted the Democratic National Convention last week but left the night without releasing a formal policy platform. Despite calls for her to face the press, Democratic pollster Cornell Belcher encouraged her to stay away from it and focus on “talking to voters.”
