A Lake Havasu City man is awaiting trial this month after police say he swung a barstool at officers who responded to his home for a domestic disturbance.
On Dec. 30, police were called to the 3000 block of Bosun Lane for a report of a domestic violence incident. According to the report, officers were given permission to enter the residence by one of the occupants of the residence, where they confronted Daniel N. Romero, 35.
Officers asked Romero to speak outside, the report said. Romero allegedly refused, waving his arms within a foot of the officer's face and yelling for the officer to leave the house.
Police attempted to detain Romero at the scene due to his hostile behavior, but Romero was able to flee from officers, police said. Police said Romero tried to run away from officers at his home and fell.
At the time, officers attempted to calm Romero down, but Romero attempted to kick the officers as they approached him from his ground position, the report said.
Law enforcement at the scene warned Romero that if he continued to resist, he would be shocked with an electronic stun device, according to a police report.
At that point, Romero got up and ran behind the kitchen table, placing the table between him and the officer, police said. Police said Romero then allegedly grabbed his bar stool and slammed it against the refrigerator in his home before swinging it at officers.
When officers believed it became clear that Romero intended to use the stool as a weapon, officers reportedly taped Romero three times before he fell to the ground.
Police said Romero tried to cover his hands with his body to prevent officers from handcuffing him. Officers eventually subdued Romero and took him outside the residence.
Romero was reportedly arrested at the scene by paramedics before police transported him to the Lake Havasu City Jail on charges of aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, assault, disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property. He said he was tested.
He was then transported to the Mohave County Jail and released on January 11 on $2,500 bail.
Romero is scheduled to appear in Mojave Superior Court for arraignment on March 4.
