New Executive Director Appointed at HBCU Cares
HBCU Cares, a prominent coalition focused on advancing the impact of Alabama’s historically black universities and community colleges, has announced the appointment of Dr. Brittany A. Holloman as its new executive director.
Dr. Holloman brings over ten years of leadership experience in higher education. Previously, she held the position of Chief of Staff at Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina. There, she was a Senior Advisor to the President, spearheading significant initiatives, coordinating strategic campus projects, and acted as a UNCF Change Officer. Her background also includes key roles at Alabama A&M University and Talladega College, where she dedicated her efforts to enhancing student and community engagement as well as ensuring student success and compliance.
A three-time graduate of HBCUs, Dr. Holloman has a PhD in urban higher education from Jackson State University. She also earned a Master’s in urban and regional planning from Alabama A&M University and a Bachelor’s in Biology from Stillman College. Her strong ties to HBCUs provide her with a distinct insight into the opportunities and challenges these institutions face.
“We are thrilled to lead an organization that plays such a transformative role for our institutions and their communities,” remarked Dr. Holloman. “HBCU Cares embodies our ambitious and strategic vision on how investing in HBCUs can drive innovation, equity, and opportunity. We eagerly anticipate collaborating with our member institutions and partners to broaden our reach and enhance our impact.”
In her new role, Dr. Holloman will manage the various initiatives of HBCU Cares, including the Alabama State Agency pipeline, health education partnerships across multiple campuses, and workforce training programs. Her leadership oversees six strategic areas: collaborative research, workforce development, economic empowerment, policy advocacy, and institutional sustainability and accountability.
“Dr. Holloman truly grasps the power of HBCUs because she has lived it,” stated Perry Jones, chairman of HBCU Cares. “Her vision, leadership, and passion are just what we need to guide the organization into its next phase.”
