Christina Stimpson, the Chief Executive Officer of the Alabama Department of Commerce’s Global Business Office, has recently been appointed to the board of the State International Development Organization (SIDO). This organization focuses on enhancing international trade and export initiatives for various U.S. states and territories.
This appointment effectively positions Alabama at the center of national discussions regarding trade development and investment. Based in Washington, D.C., SIDO operates as a nonprofit and nonpartisan group that acts as a vital resource for governors, state agencies, exporters, investors, and trade organizations.
“SIDO has been incredibly helpful for our international trade initiatives in Alabama,” Stimpson remarked. “I’m proud to represent our state on a national platform.”
She also expressed her enthusiasm about collaborating with leading trade experts nationwide in her new role. As the head of Alabama’s Global Business division, Stimpson plays a crucial role in leading the state’s export strategy and works closely with local partners to enhance Alabama businesses’ competitiveness in the global arena.
Alabama Secretary of Commerce Ellen McNair mentioned that Stimpson’s new position underscores the strength and reputation of the state’s international trade efforts. “Christina champions Alabama businesses, constantly seeking new markets and broadening our global outreach,” McNair noted. “Her role on the SIDO board reflects her leadership and highlights Alabama’s impact on the international stage.”
SIDO offers a shared platform for state trade officials and their teams, offering training and policy support to fortify the country’s presence in global commerce.
Stimpson, representing the Southern Region, will collaborate with other industry leaders to guide SIDO initiatives and advocate for legislation that enhances trade development across states.
The board comprises experts from various regions. For example, California’s Emily Desai will lead as president in 2026/2027, and Vermont’s Tim Tierney will take on the role of vice president. Mary Waters from Georgia will also be part of the leadership team.
