“We are heartbroken and deeply saddened by the tragic loss,” said the family of a successful and popular Connecticut investment banker who died after jumping from a rooftop bar.
Fairfield County resident Dale L. Cheney, 46, New Canaan, jumped from Bar 54 in Manhattan’s Hyatt Centric Times Square New York around 6:30 pm on Wednesday, January 25. New York City Police.
On Friday, January 27, the New York City Chief Medical Examiner ruled Cheney’s death a suicide.
Cheney, a married father of five, recently filed for divorce from his wife of 22 years, was arrested earlier this month in a domestic incident at his New Canaan home.
The “devoted” father’s family released a statement to the Daily Voice on Tuesday, Jan. 31, regarding the tragic loss.
“We are so grateful for the overwhelming love and support from our community,” they wrote. Thank you for your understanding.
“Dale was a loving father, husband, brother and son. was there.”
According to him obituaryCheney had a deep love of serving others, which became one of his guiding principles.
“He loved life, especially with his family,” his obituary states. “He was passionate about travel, high adventure, boating, skiing, biking, wakesurfing and running. I was looking forward to boating on Candlewood Lake with you.”
“Most of all, Dale truly loved guiding, mentoring, teaching children, playing with them and having a happy time.
He is survived by his wife Lauren. Children, Elle, Abby, James, Jackson, Luke.
