The National Weather Service has extended the extreme heat warning for Maricopa and Pinal counties through July 16.

And it could extend beyond that range as heat risks become “significant and extreme,” NWS officials said.

Daytime highs are expected to approach 118 degrees throughout the week.

NWS officials said the excessive heat could make people sick or die from the heat.

The report advises individuals to limit outdoor activity to early mornings and evenings, limit alcohol use, avoid drinks containing caffeine and sugar, and drink water throughout the day.

If you do go out, you should limit your exposure to the sun with sunglasses, hats, and light clothing. Officials advise using sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher to protect your skin from UV rays.

Additionally, the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality issued an Ozone High Pollution Advisory on Sunday, July 9th.
