Helicopter Crash Which Killed Iran President Ebrahim Raisi Reportedly Caused By Climate Conditions

An official investigation has concluded that climatic and atmospheric conditions were to blame for the May 19, 2024 helicopter crash that killed Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and seven others, the Associated Press reported.

The Army General Staff released its final report stating that the cause of the crash was primarily spring weather conditions in the region. According to The Associated Press detailed that the helicopter suddenly encountered heavy fog and crashed into a mountain.

Officials confirmed there were no signs of sabotage affecting the helicopter's parts or systems. Following the crash, First Vice President Mohammad Mokbel took over as president. Mokbel has served as Raisi's top-ranking vice president since 2021, the highest-ranking of Iran's 12 vice presidents.
