Arizona Daily Star

The road to Mount Lemmon will remain closed Monday as the crew fights a fire near the Molino Basin, officials say.

Firefighters will benefit from today’s lower temperatures than Sunday’s 100 degrees, but they will have to deal with the gusts of wind. Pima County is one of several areas in southern Arizona with red flag warnings, according to the National Weather Service.

Winds of 15 to 30 mph are expected here, with winds expected in Pinal and Santa Cruz counties from late this morning until about 7:00 pm. Gusts of 35 to 45 mph are expected during that time.

The fire started near Mile Marker 4.5 on Sunday, the Sheriff’s Department said.

The extent of the wildfires was not updated early Monday.

Residents and businesses still had access to the highway. Traffic down the mountain was also allowed.
