Grand Canyon, Arizona. – A 56-year-old man was found dead in Grand Canyon National Park on February 17. Authorities believe he was attempting a day hike to the Colorado River.
The Grand Canyon Regional Communication Center received a report of unresponsive hikers around 3:00 PM. Bright Angel Trail under Havasupai Gardens7.8 miles below the South Rim.
National Park Service search and rescue workers arrived on the scene at about 3:30 p.m. and pronounced the man, believed to be from Pewaukee, Wisconsin, dead.
According to the NPS Grand Canyon website, “The Bright Angel Trail offers such stunning views all along the trail that it’s easy to forget how far you’ve hiked. Additionally, the steepness of the trail can easily lead to misunderstandings along the way.” Plan to spend twice as long hiking as you do hiking.”
The investigation into this incident is being conducted by NPS in cooperation with the Coconino County coroner.
