Yavapai County search and rescue teams, including Verde’s backcountry rope team, were called by lawmakers to defeat the hikers.
The man began hiking late in the afternoon and as the sun began to set, he tried to return to the trailhead, but after becoming confused he fell into a “scary situation,” the sheriff said.
The search and rescue team found the man, but they were able to reach him, so a DPS Ranger helicopter rolled him up from the mountain and used him.
The man was “very cold” but did not require a doctor’s appointment.
“We would like to thank the DPS Rangers and the multiple Yavapai County Search and Rescue volunteer teams who responded in the middle of the night to ensure that this hiker was safe,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
