The man was identified months after hikers found his body at a watering hole in Arizona, the sheriff’s office said.
After discovering what appears to be a dead body, the three Women hiking in Yavapai Province The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office said in a July 17 Facebook post that it contacted the Department of Public Safety on April 8.
Police said they arrived at the scene and confirmed the man’s death.
Shortly after, officers arrived and said they found the body “partially submerged in water/mud”.
The sheriff’s office said the man was not wearing any clothes and personal items found near the water fountain were held as evidence. At the time, the sheriff’s office announced the man’s death as “suspicious.”
On July 12, lawmakers announced that the body had been identified as Vermurugan Ramnathan, 40, of Phoenix.
The sheriff’s office said Ramnathan’s death was ruled to be an accidental drowning with “no other traumatic injuries”.
Yavapai County is about 160 miles north of Phoenix.
