A piece of Lake Havasu City's history dating back to the McCulloch era will be on display at the Lake Havasu History Museum during the upcoming Balloon Festival.
Museum employee Mike Auria said. They are will display the J-2 gyroplane and photos taken in flight, including one showing the construction of London Bridge.
Information materials will also be distributed and volunteers will be on hand to answer questions about the exhibits and the museum.
Auria said the donated plane is an original and was flown by a Phoenix reporter.
Gyroplanes are part of Havasu's early history, dating back to the 60's.
According to Auria, the J-2 was designed by Drago Jovanovic and first flew in June 1962. Robert P. McCulloch Sr. acquired the design and put it into production in 1969, building 83 aircraft over the next three years.
The company that manufactured the airplane McCulloch Aircraft Corporation also They built another helicopter-type aircraft called the WC-4. Auria said information about the aircraft would be available on the display.
This gyroplane has been exhibited several times, including at the past Barron Festival and the 2021 Mind of McCulloch exhibition. The museum also has a permanent exhibit of gyroplanes, including the J-2 model.
The display will be set up in an open dirt lot near the vendor stalls at the event entrance Thursday through Sunday at Baronfest. The festival is held at Lake Havasu State Park and general admission tickets are $20.
