Home Grown: Colorado River shortage update

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – Seven basin states that use water from the Colorado River have missed today’s deadline to address the Colorado River’s water crisis.

This comes after the Yuma County Water Users Association said states along the Colorado River Basin, including Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming, have been meeting for months. .

Six of the seven states, excluding California, had last-minute suggestions about potential water outages, which took place today.

Tom Davis, general manager of the Yuma County Water Users Association, hopes the Department of Reclamation will revise the guidelines to dictate how the river is managed.

Davis said the Bureau of Reclamation will announce its plans in the next few days.

He hopes that Yuma County farmers will get the share of water they need to continue growing in the winter lettuce capital of the United States and supplying North America.
