Home Grown: Southwest Ag Summit kicks off

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – On tonight's Home Grown Report, Agriculture Week began Tuesday with farmers from near and far gathering in Yuma to learn and collaborate at the Southwest Agriculture Summit.

The Summit begins with the Jacob Lewis Daily Golf Tournament on Tuesday afternoon and continues throughout the week.

This is the desert southwest's major agricultural industry show.

We are located in the middle of some of the most diverse and productive agricultural land in the world.

Renowned experts from around the world will speak on topics such as irrigation management, immigration reform and fresh food safety, among others.

“The presentations are about issues that are relevant to today, water, environmental issues, labor, all of these are covered in the presentations and are very effective. Not just to see what they're doing, but to demonstrate what they have, the equipment they have,” said Steven Alameda, director of the Yuma Fresh Vegetable Association. .

The summit also provides an opportunity to learn what other companies in the industry are doing and how everyone can collaborate.

Agriculture Week concludes with a harvest dinner on Thursday night. Celebrate local agriculture and raise money for Yuma County Agricultural Producer Scholarship recipients.
