Hoover seeks approval for state-of-the-art medical facility

The City of Hoover and the Hoover Health Authority (HCA) announced late last week that HCA has submitted a Certificate of Need application for an outpatient surgery center and diagnostic facility to the State Health Planning and Development Authority (SHPDA).

Alabama's Certificate of Need program requires certain health care providers to obtain state approval through an application process before they can provide or expand certain services.

“Hoover, the state's sixth largest city, is home to nearly 100,000 residents, but we don't have a strong media presence. That changes today. We are ahead of the curve in pursuing what we believe are national trends in health care,” said Hoover Mayor Frank Brocato.

“We have very methodically and strategically developed the requests we make in our Certificate of Need application. We have talked with residents, listened to their opinions, and researched the different directions the healthcare industry could take. We commissioned a study to help us determine the specific specialty needed at Hoover.”

“There is no doubt that this ambulatory surgery center will have a significant impact on the Hoover economy.”

Hoover HCA attorney Colin H. Luke, an expert in the certificate of need process, explained the HCA application.

“The Hoover Health Authority today submitted a comprehensive and appropriate report.

“The overwhelming support we have today and the focused approach our health care authorities will take when it comes to health care and health in the future shows that this project is desperately needed and will transform health care in our region.” It will help convince the CON review committee that it is the right thing to do.”

“The time has come for Hoover to become a transformative force for health care improvement and cost effectiveness.”

The development will be located within the RiverWalk Health and Wellness Village along 90 acres near Riverchase Parkway. The site will also include 450,000 square feet of existing corporate offices and the Riverwalk Health and Wellness Center.

In 2021, the City of Hoover created the Hoover Health Department.
