House Homeland Security Committee Approves Two Articles Of Impeachment Against Alejandro Mayorkas

The House Homeland Security Committee approved two articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas shortly after midnight Wednesday.

The House of Representatives sent a resolution to impeach Mayorkas as the border crisis worsens. Axios report. If the historic vote is successful, Mayorkas will become the first Cabinet member to be impeached since 1876. The article published on Sunday passed the committee along party lines.

The first article of impeachment against Mayorkas cites record levels of illegal border crossings and migrants being released into the country, and accuses Mayorkas of a “deliberate and systematic refusal to abide by the law.” The second article accuses Mayorkas of “betraying the public's trust,” according to a copy obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation.

The commission believes Mayorkas perpetuated the border crisis by directing authorities to limit immigration enforcement through the September 2021 Immigration Act. Note.

Mayorkas was accused of lying to Congress in his second article, which said the southern border is “secure” and that DHS has “operational control” of the area. He also supported a false claim in September 2021 accusing Border Patrol agents of “whipping” illegal immigrants, an allegation that was denied in a federal investigation.

Republican attorneys general, legal experts and mothers who lost children to fentanyl and MS-13 gang members testified to the Homeland Security Committee in January during two hearings on the impeachment proceedings against Mr. Mayorkas.
