How 2024 Senate race for Sinema’s seat is shaping up

We may not be able to fill the ballot bubble in November, but the upcoming US Senate election is lurking in the shadows.

So far, only one of the leading candidates (a Democrat) has announced his candidacy.

As Arizona continues to be one of the hottest battleground states in the country, all eyes are on who will be elected in the 2024 Senate election.

Arizona Sen. Kirsten Cinema announced in December that she had quit the Democratic Party and is now an independent.

The Latino Victory Project, a political action committee that supports Latino candidates, launched a campaign in 2018 to draft Ruben Gallego for the Senate.

And Republicans are trying to win back seats. No candidates have been officially announced, but there are many names floating around.

Former gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake is one of them. Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb has also shown interest.

This week, The Gaggle, a podcast by The Arizona Republic and azcentral.com, joins hosts Ron Hansen and Mary Jo Pitzl. Erin CoveyShe is a political reporter and analyst for Inside Elections, which provides bipartisan analysis of presidential, congressional, and gubernatorial elections.
