Despite being nearly five months away from retirement, Nick Saban is set to be busy in 2024. He's been spotted relaxing at the Masters, offering advice at a U.S. Senate roundtable and providing commentary for NFL Draft broadcasts.
So how is Saban preparing for the trip? The former coach told ABC 33/40 he's leaning on another Alabama legend, James Spann.
Nick Saban on who he gets his weather forecasts from when he's traveling or on the golf course: translator @span
“I call James Spann and ask him what the weather is like in Dallas. I don't want to get caught in a thunderstorm, and he always gives me an accurate answer.” pic.twitter.com/KXJgAnToaR

“I'm traveling around the country giving talks,” Saban said. “I called James Spann and said, 'How's the weather in Dallas? I'm flying in today, and I don't want to get caught in a storm.'”
“I appreciate that because he's always right,” the coach laughed.
The longtime friends have maintained open communication for a long time. Saban joked. He had been thinking about retiring and working with Spann.
“If we didn't start playing better, I was going to see if there was an opening at your place and become an assistant. I watch the Weather Channel, so I feel like I'm an expert,” Saban said.
Span is a frequent guest on “Hey Coach & The Nick Saban Show,” where he gives the Crimson Tide weather forecasts before games and calls Saban “Weather nerd, total weather nerd.”
