Hugh Hewitt Discusses Why Hamas Should Agree to a 60-Day Hostage Deal

Hewitt Advocates for 60-Day Hostage Deal with Hamas

Veteran political analyst Hugh Hewitt shared his thoughts on Fox News, suggesting that Hamas ought to consider a 60-day agreement focused on hostages.

In light of President Donald Trump’s announcement regarding Israel’s acceptance of a ceasefire in Gaza, Hewitt emphasized that Hamas should take the deal before conditions worsen, especially as negotiations are set to take place with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House. Appearing on “Special Report with Bret Baier,” he noted that even though not all 20 hostages may be released, the deal does present a chance for a substantial number to be freed.

“It’s possible that not all 20 hostages are alive, but generally, a deal like this could facilitate their release,” he remarked. “Hamas is quite isolated from its home base now—resources are dwindling. They really should consider accepting this deal and move on. The president’s approach is valid; I sincerely hope they pay attention to it.”

Hewitt conveyed a sense of hope regarding the prospect of a significant number of hostages being released.

“There’s a fair amount of optimism that we could see hostages being freed in larger groups,” he told Brett Baier.

Trump is actively pressing both the Israeli government and Hamas to reach an agreement for a ceasefire and hostage release, aiming to bring an end to the conflict in Gaza.

Trump stated via social media that, “My representative had a long and constructive meeting with Israeli officials today. Israel has agreed to the necessary terms for the 60-day ceasefire. We will collaborate with all political groups to conclude this war.”

Netanyahu is scheduled to meet with Trump at the White House soon. Trump has been advocating for an end to the fighting and recently indicated that a ceasefire agreement is likely to be reached soon.

Hamas is confronting serious challenges, as Israel works to weaken Iran and bolster opposing factions in Gaza, complicating Hamas’s efforts to maintain its military prowess. The group is dealing with significant military and financial setbacks, facing leadership losses, alongside difficulties with its tunnel operations. Additionally, potential diminishing support from Tehran due to U.S. military strikes complicates their situation further.

With supplies dwindling, maintaining defense capabilities is increasingly difficult for Hamas. Israel is aiming for a long-term strategy to establish control over Gaza while preventing Hamas from regaining power.
