Body of Missing Teen Found Near Grove
GROVE, Ariz. – A body discovered near Grove, close to US 60, has been identified as that of a teenage girl reported missing from Mesa, according to the Gira County Sheriff’s Office.
The deceased has been confirmed as 14-year-old Emily Pike, and authorities are treating her death as a potential murder.
Initial reports indicated that her body was located at Milepost 277 on Forest Service Road #355, with information about the case shared on Facebook on February 14th.
The Gira County Sheriff’s Office, along with the San Carlos Apache Tribal Police Department, is actively investigating the situation.
On Thursday, investigators determined that the body belonged to a boy from San Carlos Apache who had been reported missing at the Mesa Police Station, as stated in a GSCO release.
A post from the GSCO indicated that further investigation was necessary before issuing a public warning, noting there was no apparent threat to the community.
“Regrettably, some information shared on Facebook was meant for law enforcement only and was leaked,” the post mentioned.
