I-40 crash in Williams: More human remains found in debris

More human remains were found 10 days after a Fatal and fiery stake crash on Williams I-40.

What we know:

The March 13 crash happened before 3:30pm I-40 near Mile Post 159.

The Arizona DPS says the crash occurred while the driver tried to avoid a “commercial vehicle with a jackknife.” That’s when another commercial vehicle jackknife, attacked the other vehicle, killing Arizona residents Juan Bertran Sanchez and Evelyn Davis.

Now, on March 24, the Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) and the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) issued a joint statement saying additional people were found in the wreckage of the crash.

“Through continuing investigation and cooperation, investigators have confirmed that one of the vehicles involved in the collision is a BMW SUV,” the statement said. “And as of March 23, 2025, investigators have found more human remains within the fragments recovered from the crashed scene.”

Their names are 33-year-old Kiyon Lee, 59-year-old Taehee Kim, and 54-year-old Junhee Kim.

At the time of its disappearance, the CCSO said the family was traveling by car rental. 9khn768. That same day, at 3:27pm, BMW was pinged on an I-40 outside Williams, near Williams.

What they are saying:

“All agencies involved are actively working together to determine whether the relics of Korean citizens who were thought to be lacking in the area at the time of the collision. The strength and long term of the fire that occurred during the collision have pose an important challenge for identification efforts. Identification understands the urgency and emotional sacrifices that this uncertainty poses urgently on families and the public.
