‘I Am A Grown Woman!’: Nancy Mace, Dem Rep Face Off In Congressional Screaming Match

Republican South Carolina Rep. Nancy Mace and Democratic Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett clashed Tuesday during a committee hearing over biological males in civil rights and women’s spaces.

Chairman James Comer convened the first hearing of the House Oversight Committee with both new and returning members for the 119th Congress. More than two hours after the hearing began, Crockett used his time to urge the group to reinstate a subcommittee focused on civil rights.

“Today, I am asking you to take courageous action and establish a subcommittee to ensure that everyone in this country is protected. To ensure that we all have the true freedom we deserve. ,” Crockett said.

Comer then gave Mace the floor and blasted Crockett’s comments, saying it was “rich” for Democrats like the Texas congressman to discuss rights. (Related article: Democratic lawmaker who defeats AOC to lead oversight committee promises ‘trench warfare’ against Republicans)

“I come from a party that can’t define what a woman is and doesn’t give women the right to privacy. You all want men with penises, chicks with penises, in the bathroom with us. I believe that women should be forced to undress in front of men in locker rooms and locker rooms,” Mace said.

“It’s so hypocritical to sit here and shout from the rooftops about privacy rights and civil rights when you don’t respect women,” Mace added.

Republican representatives said women who have been sexually assaulted should not be forced to share space with biological men.

Mace, a rape survivor, has previously spoken publicly about her experiences, including supporting President-elect Trump in a tense ABC interview with George Stephanopoulos. She once accused him of “embarrassing” her.

As Mace concluded Tuesday, one Democrat gave Crockett the rest of his time.

“She’s going to keep saying trans, trans, trans because somebody’s campaign finances are really hurting right now, so people feel threatened and, kid, listen, I want you guys to tell me. But—” Crockett said before Mace jumped in.

“I’m not a kid! Don’t call me a kid! I’m not a kid! Don’t get me started. I’m a 47 year old adult woman. I’ve broken more glass ceilings than you. I’m here—” cried Mace.

As Ms. Crockett was finishing her statement, she asked for her time back, to which Ms. Mace quickly replied, “If you want to come out.”

The Protecting Women and Girls in Sports Act passed Congress on Tuesday in a vote of 218-206, with just two Democrats joining Republicans in barring biological males from women’s sports.
