Ahead of the trip to South America, Slay posted a video online in which he spoke about playing in Brazil, but it wasn't in a positive light: Instead, he spoke of his concerns about the high crime rate in the country and even claimed the league had told all players not to leave their hotel rooms.

“I don't want to go to Brazil. You want to know why? I'll tell you why,” Slay said. “We've already been told not to leave the hotel. We've been told we can't hang out outside much because the crime rate is crazy high. NFL, why are you sending us to a place with such a high crime rate?”
