Special Prosecutor Nathan Wade acknowledged Thursday that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has only one receipt proving he paid for the trip they took together.
President Trump's co-defendant Michael Roman said in a Jan. 8 motion that Willis appointed his girlfriend, Wade, as special prosecutor and used funds from the position to take him on vacation. He claimed that he had been unfairly profiting from this. In an affidavit attached to the state's Feb. 2 response, Mr. Wade said he paid for his travel expenses “approximately evenly.” We divided it,” he said.
“You said in your affidavit that you broadly shared your travels with her, right?” asked Roman's attorney, Ashley Merchant, during the hearing before Judge Scott McAfee.
“Yes,” Wade said.
“So this sharing of trouble is saying that she has repaid you?” asked the merchant.
“She did,” he said.
“So where did you put the money she refunded you?” she asked.

Wade continued to state that the only documentary evidence that Willis paid for some of the travel expenses were receipts that were included in the affidavit.
“So, you provided the one piece of written evidence you have that she paid for something. Everything else was in cash. Is that accurate?”
“No,” he said.
“Tell me, do you have any other receipts that show she paid?” the merchant pressed.
“I don't have them,” he said.
“Is this the only receipt you have to prove that she paid for the trip?'' said the merchant.
“That's true, ma'am,” he said.
