Former Vice President Al Gore railed against “polluters” and called on the public to listen to scientists on climate change in a speech at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The COP29 summit, which began on Monday, has so far featured speakers proposing taxes on the meat and dairy industries and “climate finance” initiatives for the least developed countries. Speaking at the conference, Gore claimed that climate scientists’ predictions had been proven “absolutely correct.”
“The fact that the scientists who predicted all of this decades ago have been proven completely correct forces the rest of us to pay more attention to what they’re telling us now.” ” Mr. Gore passionately told the audience, prompting cheers and applause from those in attendance. “We hear what a pollutant doesn’t want to do in a way that can reduce fossil fuels, or what we need to do. Are you going to listen to the scientists who keep saying it?” (Related: UN summit president says naming extreme heat events will help fight climate change)

“There was a very extreme drought in China in the middle of this year, but what is happening in the Amazon, in the Rio Solimões, in the Rio Negro, the worst drought on record in the Amazon? River flows in Colombia 90% of the world is in drought, and Ecuador has lost hydropower because of this,” Gore continued. “In Namibia and Zimbabwe, we are currently killing livestock and killing wild animals to feed hungry people. How long are we going to let things get worse before we decide to take action? Sorry, but lately… I press the button myself.”
Mr Gore claimed that 30 million tonnes of ice had melted in Greenland during the hour he was speaking, and warned that melting ice could have devastating effects on the ocean.
“It’s freshwater flowing from Greenland into the North Atlantic Ocean, and it involves an important part of the ocean current circulation system. It can be disrupted,” he said. “Some scientists disagree, but they are increasingly sounding the alarm.” (Click here to watch the Daily Caller documentary “Anarchy U”)
“And if you look at the statement at the bottom, these are peer-reviewed. Scientists say in this peer-reviewed study, ‘We estimate that we will collapse around mid-century.’ . what? ! what? ! “Gore continued. “Some of the load-bearing elements of our entire global ecosystem are at risk. And what are we doing? Just talk, talk. I’m not making much progress. I’m getting excited again, so I’ll try to calm down.”
