At the IBEW Local Union 443 membership meeting held on February 10, 2024, Anthony Daniels, current minority leader in the Alabama House of Representatives, addressed members as a candidate for Alabama's 2nd Congressional District.

Mr. Daniels is proud of his work since joining the Alabama Legislature, including his time as a member and officer of the National Education Association and the passage and bipartisan support of the Alabama Overtime Act, the only bill of its kind. talked about. This bill would eliminate the 5% Alabama income tax on overtime in Alabama. He also called on MPs for on-the-ground support to help him get elected.

Daniels came up with the idea of ​​overtime billing as a way to put money back into the pockets of men and women who work hourly wages without burdening their employers. Effective January 1, 2024, hard-working men and women who would benefit from this bill could use the additional 5 percent on overtime they save at local businesses to boost their local economy. there is.

After Daniels retired and took a new job, a motion supporting Daniels was filed, seconded, and passed unanimously in Alabama's 2nd Congressional District.

I often tell people that IBEW Local 443 does not teach its members how to vote, but instead educates the union on specific matters related to candidates' positions on issues that affect its members and the men and women who work for a living. I told them that I would notify the staff.

I don't want to take anything away from the other candidates in the race, because there are some great candidates who support unions and working men and women. However, we believe that locally we must support those who have supported us. I can't think of any bill that would have more of an impact on the lives of the men and women who work for a living in Alabama than the overtime bill that Anthony Daniels authored and was able to pass with overwhelming support from Democrats and Republicans. .
