U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is searching for a Haitian immigrant accused of raping a disabled 15-year-old girl in March after he was released on low bail on Wednesday.

Alvarez was arrested in March on suspicion of raping a 15-year-old girl who asked for help loading apps onto a tablet at a Comfort Inn used to house immigrants in Rockland, Massachusetts, CBS Boston reported. reportICE took Alvarez into custody after charging him. according to to WCVB 5, a Boston-based outlet.

Authorities have been unable to search for Alvarez since Sullivan granted bail despite him being in ICE custody, according to the Boston Herald. reportICE agents had been trying to detain Alvarez after he was released, the Herald reported.
Melgin said Alvarez initially entered the U.S. in June 2023 through the “CHNV” program, a Biden administration program that allows Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans to enter the U.S. on humanitarian parole. according to To U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
ICE has previously arrested other sex offenders who had been released from Massachusetts courts. In June, ICE agents arrested a 24-year-old undocumented immigrant from Guatemala who was out on bail in Bristol County after being charged with child rape.
ICE also detained an illegal immigrant from the Cape Verde Islands in April who had been repeatedly convicted of indecent exposure.
Illegal immigration has become a key issue in the 2024 election campaign following a series of crimes involving illegal immigrants. On June 14, Oklahoma authorities arrested Victor Antonio Martinez Hernandez, a 23-year-old illegal immigrant from El Salvador, for the August 2023 murder of 37-year-old Rachel Morin in Maryland. Authorities in Houston arrested two men and charged them with murder in the rape and killing of 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray on June 20. In February, Jose Antonio Ibarra, a Venezuelan immigrant who illegally crossed the U.S.-Mexico border, was arrested by University of Georgia police and charged with the murder of 22-year-old nursing student Laken Riley.
