Actor and stunt performer Wee Man has criticized Disney’s decision to cast a full-sized actor to play the dwarf in the upcoming live-action remake of “Snow White.”
The “Jackass” star, whose real name is Jason Acuna, stopped by Apple Pan in Los Angeles to share his thoughts on the replacement of small people by normal-height actors in Disney movies. “That’s bad. I disagree with that,” Wee Mann told TMZ. “What you’re doing is pretty much replacing a job that a tiny human could have.”
Acuña called Disney and said there was still time to rectify the situation.
“Personally, it hasn’t affected me in any way,” he said, but noted that the film’s title is “Snow White and the Seven Dwarves,” not “Snow White and the Seven Ordinary People.”
Acuna then claimed that others in Hollywood were making the same mistake.
“Hugh Grant is playing an Oompa-Loompa right now,” he said, referring to the upcoming origin story movie “Wonka.” “Hugh Grant, you seem to recognize yourself as a little person now…interesting…great.” (Related: Jamie Foxx returns to work after mysterious medical crisis)
Weeman also expected Disney to face backlash over the casting decision, which continues to be disappointing at the box office.
“A lot of people would be mad at them if that was what they were doing,” Acuna said. “If they want to make it right, they’ll redo the movie and redo the cast.”
“Do better, Disney,” he added.
