The Smile have announced the cancellation of their European tour due to a health emergency involving lead guitarist Jonny Greenwood.
The Radiohead offshoot band shared the news with their roughly 79,100 X followers on Friday morning.
“A few days ago, Johnny became seriously ill with an infection which required emergency hospitalization, including some treatment in intensive care,” the band said in a statement. “Thankfully, he is now out of danger and is due to return home shortly.” The band did not provide further details about how Greenwood became infected.

The band shared advice from the medical professionals who have been treating Greenwood and notified ticket holders of how the band's schedule has been affected.
“We have been instructed by the medical team responsible for Johnny's care to cancel all appointments until he is fully recovered,” they wrote.

“As a result, Smile's European tour scheduled for August has been cancelled. Refunds for headline shows will be accepted through ticket resellers,” the band said in a statement.
“We all wish Johnny a speedy recovery,” Smile concluded.
In addition to Greenwood's guitar talents, The Smile also feature singer Thom Yorke and drummer Tom Skinner.
The Smile are currently touring in support of their album Wall of Eyes, having performed in Germany, Czech Republic, Serbia, Romania, Croatia, Bulgaria and Italy in June. (Related article: Neil Young cancels tour due to band member's illness)
They had a number of shows booked for August, including in Poland, Germany, Austria, France and Spain.
