“Yellowstone” star Gil Birmingham had a lot to say about his co-star Kevin Costner at the 2024 Critics' Choice Awards on Sunday.
Even if you're not a fan of “Yellowstone,” you probably recognize Birmingham from one of his many works. role in TV and movies like “Wind River'' and “Hell or High Water.'' He played the role of Tribal Chairman Thomas Rainwater on co-creator Taylor Sheridan's iconic series, and has been working with leading actor Costner since the first episode.
“Kevin is [an] An extraordinary talent, he has been throughout his career and it's no different on our show.'' Birmingham Said Fox News Sunday. “He's a great leader and we have a deep respect and appreciation for him.” Apparently, Costner is “a mentor to everyone” on the “Yellowstone” set. “His wealth of experience and incredible presence and how he plays John Dutton. We're all learning something every day with him,” Birmingham continued.
But it's not just Costner that makes Yellowstone such a great production for Birmingham and the rest of its stellar cast.
“We've seen it gather a fan base exponentially season after season to the point where it's the number one show on cable TV,” Birmingham said. “And we couldn't be more excited that our fans have really connected with this work and that word of mouth has spread to so many loyal fans.”
It's unclear whether Birmingham's character will remain on the original show or move on to the spinoff series 2024. My hope is that he stays. Sure, there are moments where Rainwater is a complete antagonist to the Dutton family, but he should be. After all, it is his tribe's land.
