An Illinois gas station turned into a scene from a Wild West movie when shootings began in broad daylight after a man appeared to be cut in a parking lot.
Shooting reported at Rockford convenience store
According to a Rockford Police Department press release, officers responded to a Stop and Go on Charles Street at approximately 1:10 p.m. Friday afternoon (3/31) with a report of the shooting.
When they arrived at the scene, RPD said a man driving a box truck got out of the c-store in front of a white van and the man inside the van began firing into the truck which hit the front passenger door. and windows.
Van involved in gas station shooting found hours later
Late Friday night (3/31), officers from the Rockford Police Department spotted the van and pulled it over on N. Church and Napoleon Streets at approximately 11:05 pm.
Officers took the driver into custody and identified him as 32-year-old Anthony Sago of Rockford. Sago was charged with:
- Worsening illegal use of weapons
- Exacerbated Discharge in Firearms
- illegal use of weapons by criminals
- possession of a firearm
- property damage
According to the RPD press release, these charges against Sago are “mere accusations” and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
