An investigation has begun after several people were found shot to death in two separate homes in an Illinois town Monday afternoon, police said.
Joliet Police Department (JPD) posted on social media that authorities began “conducting an active homicide investigation” after multiple people were shot to death near West Acres Road around 3 p.m. issued a statement. “Joliet Police detectives are currently searching for Romeo Nance, who was allegedly driving a red Toyota Camry Q730412. “This is an active investigation that we are working with our local law enforcement partners on,” authorities said regarding the suspect.
“Nance should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information regarding Nance and this vehicle is encouraged to contact local law enforcement,” authorities claimed.
Joliet Police Department Chief William Evans said in a press conference that Joliet authorities were notified of the alleged incident by the Will County Sheriff's Office around noon. Evens said when authorities arrived at the scene, they found the bodies of several people who had allegedly been shot to death in separate homes.
During a news conference, Will County Sheriff's Deputy Dan Jungles said authorities were alerted to two shootings in the area on Sunday. Will County authorities set up lookouts near a home on West Acres Road while searching for the suspects, and eventually discovered several bodies on Monday and contacted JPD authorities, according to The Jungles.
Joliet authorities claim Nance's car was found at the location and have been led to believe that all three alleged incidents are related, Evans said. Evans and Jungles also said authorities believe Monday's several victims were all related, noting that the homes were located across the street.
“I've been a police officer for 29 years,” Evans said. “This is probably the worst crime scene I've ever been involved with.”
As the investigation is ongoing, there is no confirmed motive at this time.
