CNN’s Jake Tupper denied on Sunday that he was “to the left” after Brooke Rollins called for his “side” because the Agriculture Secretary “goes crazy” over tariffs.
Stock markets plummeted for the second day in a row on Friday after President Donald Trump announced mutual tariffs on countries claiming imports from the US on Wednesday. In “The State of the Union,” Tupper asked Rollins for a period of time he expected “customer chaos” to last.
“Well, first of all, Jake, thank you for welcoming me. I think it’s really important to understand that last Wednesday was when the president unveiled this new American order, the new American economic plan,” Rollins said. “We’re now two days. You have two days of data. Especially on your side – everyone on the left is surprised.”
Tupper jumped in, “I’m not on the left.” Rollins laughed at the CNN host’s statement before continuing the discussion. (Related: Gavin Newsom attempts to end Trump’s “liberation day” tariffs)
“But at the end of the day, listen to this whole concept. It’s okay, Jake, thank you,” Rollins said. “The concept is to rebuild the American economy around American goods, the American industry. We already live under the tariff regime of this country, but that is the tariff regime of China, Australia, Mexico.

“The country of Honduras takes more pork than the whole European Union takes than the pork in America. So from our farming and ranch perspective, that’s what I’m focusing on, but I’ll talk about anything. That’s something I recall last Wednesday.
The Dow Jones industrial average fell 2,200 points on Friday, following the sharpest decline since June 2020 and the 1,679.39 points plunge on Thursday.
The market comes after Trump announced new tariffs in an estimated 60 countries on Wednesday. Higher charges targeting countries that impose sudden tariffs on the US were subject to 10% tariffs on countries like China, which have a 67% tariff on the US.
Rollins said 50 countries have “have come to the table” since Trump declared its “liberation day,” adding that they are now “happily desperate” to negotiate with the administration.
“We are the economic engine of the world. Finally, it’s time for President Trump to stand up to America,” Rollins said.
